For a number of years now, I have had a growing love-hate relationship with Lego. My kids LOVE it – it is all they request on birthdays, it is all they spend their money on. Consequently, the Lego minefield AKA the boy’s bedroom is pretty much like a Lego invasion.

As a homeschool mum, I have to admit that Lego has been a huge blessing over the years. During countless hours of reading books aloud, Lego has kept my tactile kiddos happy. On rain days, sick days, snow days, birthdays – actually, not many days go by without Legos on the floor.

Yesterday, I decided it was time to clean the house up for the new year and get ready for school. So I asked them to put away their Lego.

These pics were taken AFTER they had cleaned up! The before pics would have been too embarrassing. To be honest, I try not to look in the Lego room too much as it makes me twitch violently.

I would be neat freak if they would let me!

My Hubby tells me to relax, that they are being creative – and I have to admit he’s right as usual.

So, this new year no more screaming about the mess in the Lego room. I just won’t go in there!

Maybe, they could all work for Lego and make a living being creative and making a mess? Just a thought!

On New Year’s day, we watched our oldest home movies. You think you will never forget when the kids were just tiny, but those videos of the bath times, the wheelbarrow rides when dad looks so young, their cute little voices, their fat little bellies and pudgy cheeks seemed so long ago. It made me appreciate every day I have with them. Even the kids were laughing at themselves throwing tantrums. This is progress!!

I am so very thankful today for my beautiful, exhausting, mess-making little treasures. I know I would be so bored without them and no Lego to pick up! Thank you, Lord for these precious gifts.

Blessings, Kay
