So what are you to do when it’s freezing Oregon day out and snowing?  Make cookies of course!  So we did just that and made a huge mess with frosting. Oh and the kids where bouncing off the walls on a sugar high after, which really wasn’t the greatest idea.

But then I sent them to bed – ha ha ! We’re not amazing cookie decorators but we are good at finding things to occupy the long dark evenings at our 43′ north latitude.

Today I am thankful for being off homeschooling for the holidays and having time to just hang with the kids and make a mess.

Earlier today, a friend told me she had seen some families living in the local park, taking shelter under a canopy. My heart broke.  I confess I have been having a hard time in my heart that we still didn’t have flooring down in our home, just plywood. I was grumbling in my heart that we had no curtains, baseboards and real full size oven. Focusing on what we don’t have is always such a trap that ends living a half empty life. Thankfulness, perspective and attitude are key to living a life not bound by our circumstance. So I am thankful for the ton of laundry I have to do, the cooking that never stops and the sweeping up of stray cookie sprinkles because it means I have a roof over my head and food on the table. Who knows about tomorrow, God just asks us to be thankful for TODAY.

Ps 104: 1 “Bless the Lord oh my soul, O Lord my God, thou art very great.”

Blessings to you all for this Christmas season.
